Ice Boom In Nelson River
Keeyask Project - Sullivan & Son / Manitoba Hydro
Ice Boom In Nelson River
Ice and safety booms on the Nelson River, Northern Manitoba for the Keeyask Project.
The ice boom was built to accelerate the formation of a stable ice cover necessary to minimise the formation of anchor ice downstream, and reduce the cost of a cofferdam required during the construction of the Keeyask hydroelectric dam few hundred meters downstream. Two booms A and B were built in the summer of 2015 and formed a stable ice cover during the freeze up and during the entire winter season.
For Keeyask Project - Sullivan & Son / Manitoba Hydro.
Reason For Project
Formation of anchor ice downstream, and reduce the cost of a cofferdam required during the construction of the Keeyask hydroelectric dam few hundred meters downstream.
Solution
Two booms A and B were built in the summer of 2015 and formed a stable ice cover during the freeze up and during the entire winter season The ice boom was built to accelerate the formation of a stable ice cover necessary to minimise the formation of anchor ice downstream.
Outcome
Booms were built, installed and still in service.
